Twenty One Pilots: Concert

Euphoria-

A feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness

I don’t think there are enough words in the English language to describe just how incredible it was to see Twenty One Pilots live. Seeing my favorite band perform in person was truly one of the best experiences of my life. The day began with Anna and I, along with another one of our close friends, arriving to Terminal 5 in New York. For those of you who don’t know, Terminal 5 is a concert venue that opened fairly recently in 2003. We got to the venue 4, 3 1/2 hours before the 7:30 show time because we wanted to make sure we could get close to the stage once inside. We were surprised that even with us arriving so early, the line for the show still stretched around the entire building! But, the long wait was completely worth it once we were let inside.

The show began with slow elevator music being played and with bodyguards pouring bottles of water into the mouths of thirsty fans. Then, the music started. First up was, Vinyl Theater followed by MisterWives.

Both acts were good but it was obvious that the crowd had come to see Twenty One Pilots and was getting a bit impatient. There was a lot of shoving and general mosh pit behavior going on. In fact, the crowd was starting to get a bit too rowdy, but as soon as Tyler and Josh got on stage, everyone calmed down a bit. Once Tyler faced the crowd and said “I hope you all are being kind to one another out there” everyone stopped shoving and plowing their way through the pit, and instead just focused on the music.

“Guns for Hands” was the first song they performed, and the show ended with a bang to Trees. Not only were songs from Vessel performed, but oldies like “Kitchen Sink” and “Addict with a Pen” were also played. Along with their original songs, Tyler did a mash-up of a bunch of songs including “Bugatti”-Ace Hood and “Drunk in Love”- Beyoncé on his ukulele, which was one of the highlights of the night.

Another great part of the show was Tyler and Josh’s high energy throughout the entire performance. They were running around the stage at all times, with the occasional flip or jump being added to the singing. Not only was the energy high on stage but within the audience, the vibe was incredible.

The crowd itself was crazy, with people constantly being lifted up to crowd surf, and people riding on other peoples shoulders. Some time into the show, Tyler told the crowd to find someone to lift up in the air so people climbed onto each other’s shoulders and sang along 6 feet above the ground.5

My hands down favorite moment in the show was when Tyler and Joshua put drums with platforms out into the crowd for the audience to hold. They then went onto the platforms and performed all the fans favorite songs in the middle of the crowd.6

Even though I obviously thought some moments of the show were more memorable then others, the entire show blew my mind. “We are Twenty One Pilots and so are you” – Tyler Joseph
