How to Ease Nerves/ Anxiety about School

High school sucks. Now don’t get me wrong; I love my friends and the clubs I’m in, but school in general gives me so much stress. I remember being in middle school and being extremely excited for high school. I’d see teens around my town and think “wow they’re upperclassmen, so they must be cool and have fun all the time!” Yeah…that was extremely wrong. High school isn’t a fun place to go where you and all your friends can have a blast during the day. Instead, your supposed to go to school for 8 hours and then come home to do just as much time’s worth of homework, leaving basically no time for anything else. It’s incredible that there aren’t more teens going insane. With the heavy workload of school it’s not a surprise that it causes a lot of stress and anxiety. For me personally, I know that having just 1 test on Monday is enough to have me stressing the whole weekend. Because of this, I’ve had to figure out different ways to relieve stress, so here’s a few things that help me get rid of some anxiety caused by school.

Drink Tea:

It’s something relatively quick and proven to help ease stress that you can do in a short amount of time. Just heat up some water, and your basically done! With tons of different flavors, there’s something for everyone. If you need a bit more energy try black tea because it has caffeine in it, but if you just want to relax try herbal tea because it’s soothing.

Take a Bath:

Another easy solution to help you be calmer is to take a bath. With numerous stores, like LUSH and Bath & Body Works, that sell products specifically for baths, it isn’t a huge shock that I lot of people love to take baths. I personally love bath bombs from LUSH because they make the water look cool, but any type of bath soap will work.

Scientific research has shown that exercise does in fact make you feel better. When you’re moving, your body releases endorphins to your brain, which make you feel better. Just taking a quick jog around your block, or doing jumping jacks for a couple of minutes can help ease stress.

As always I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and that you all have a great week!

What to Wear: Sweet 16 Edition

Since I’m currently a sophomore, most of my friends are turning, or have turned 16. I don’t know why, but a sixteenth birthday is considered to be a huge milestone in a girl’s life. While 16 may seem like a bit of a random number, I know to me it does, a lot of people choose to celebrate this day in a big way. Whether it is a huge party, or just a small dinner with close friends, most people want their sweet 16 to be a memorable and fun night.

While planning your own party is stressful and hard, so is trying to find the perfect outfit to wear to one of your friend’s birthday. To help make picking out an outfit easier, here’s a guide to what to wear to any type of sweet 16.

Casual Dinner at Home

What I Would Wear:

A casual sweater with leggings

It’s a very simple look that makes you look put together, without making it seem like you tried too hard. The fact that its really comfy is definitely an added bonus!

Fancier Dinner Party

What I Would Wear:

A simple dress with wedges

I think for this type of party, my outfit is very weather dependent. If it’s spring or summer time, a floral or lace dress is always my go to. But in the winter, I’m more likely to wear a dress with longer sleeves (to stay warm), and with darker colors. The key to this type of party is to not get extremely dressed up, but still look collected. Really, any simple dress would be the perfect fit!

Full on Sweet 16

What I Would Wear:

A fancier dress with heels

If it’s a party where you know the birthday girl has rented out a whole venue, with music, food, and entertainment, it’s finally the time to get dressed up. For this kind of party, looking a bit more fancy is the right way to go. I’d wear a cute dress, and a nice pair of heels. If the sweet you’re going to has a specific theme, then maybe try to dress in accordance with the theme.

Shades of Blue OOTD 2/17/15

Monochrome fashion is all the rage at the moment, or layering multiple pieces of the same color clothing over each other. Majority of the time this look is achieved with blacks, whites, or grays but today I decided to reflect my winter blues with this almost all blue ensemble.

Trench coat (similar) • Button Down • Necklace (similar)

Overalls (similar) • Socks (similar) • Shoes

For my hair, I wanted to continue the clean formal look the cool blue button down gave, while also playing with the overalls, and mixed patterns of my socks and shoes, so I went with double bun look.

The weather is unbearable lately, I can’t wait for summer to come around,

With love,

Cute and Easy Hairstyles

Everyone knows that braids are in. To me, braids are the perfect hairstyle. They’re quick and pretty simple to do, and there’s so many different ways they can be worn. Braids can be used to make hairstyles simple enough for school, or fancy enough to walk down a red carpet. Here are two of my favorite ways to wear braids.

First off, in the picture above, is what I call, the braided bun. This might just be the easiest hairstyle to do. You’ll only need a couple bobby pins and a hair tie to do this braid. The steps recreate this look are-

  1. Braid your hair normally, starting at the nape of your neck, to the end of your hair
  2. Tie off braid with a ponytail
  3. Wrap braid around itself starting with the side closest to your head
  4. Bobby pin the end on your hair under the bun to hold bun in place

The second hairstyle is a French ponytail. To start you’ll need the same materials used to create the braided bun.

  1. Start braiding normally at the top of the head
  2. Once you’ve braided normally until about a centimeter behind the hairline
  3. Begin to French Braid (tutorial on French braiding here)
  4. French braid in a direction going towards the crown of your head
  5. Once at the center of the crown, tie hair into a ponytail
  6. Use bobby pins to pin down any stray hairs

In these pictures, my hair is either straightened, or I did the hairstyle on one of my friends. Naturally, I have pretty wavy/curly hair; so if you guys would like a tutorial on how I wear my hair naturally, let me know! Hope you guys liked this post!
